BIM: a technology acceptance model in Peru
The purpose of this paper is to empirically study factors that facilitate the adoption of building information modelling (BIM) among practitioners using the unified theory of technology acceptance model (TAM). The factors identified in the TAM were examined using a quantitative approach. The empirical investigation has been conducted using a survey questionnaire. The data set has been obtained from 73 architects and engineers in Peru. Results show that Perceived Usefulness (PU) is the most important determinant of Behavioural Intention (BI), while Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) is found to have no significant effect on BI. The findings provide an excellent backdrop in the development of policy and a roadmap for BIM implementation in Peru. The original contribution and value of the paper is the use of TAM to provide empirical evidence on factors that facilitate BIM adoption in Peru
Evolution in public procurement and the impact of e-procurement platforms: a case study
A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Management from the NOVA – School of Business and EconomicsThe aim of this project is to understand the evolution that occurred in the public
procurement due to the new Public Contracts Code that changed the procurement
procedures and forced public entities to use electronic procurement platforms. This
work is a contribution to the understanding of the main procurement changes with this
new code as well to understand the impact and functioning of electronic procurement
platforms. Moreover, a case study is presented, using the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa
Norte, to assess the impacts of these changes and the inevitable adjustments needed
Strategic group mapping and strategy canvas analysis of the environmental consulting sector : a project-based dissertation on the German Market : a public archival data web-content analysis
In this project-based dissertation I had the chance to work with an environment
consulting SME, where I was asked to do a competitor analysis of the German Market
in particular sectors in which they will focus on (Nanomaterials, Biocides and Medical
Devices).
It is possible to observe that the increasingly stringent environmental policies,
chemistry developments and environmental consciousness are creating a great
potential for the growth in size and relevance of this sector.
Strategic management and strategic categorization have developed into many streams
of research, and however, strategic tools still haven’t been used to describe the
environmental consulting sector, which has been overlooked in the literature.
Through an analysis of public archival data (Company website, LinkedIn and annual
reports), it was possible apply the Strategic group mapping and Strategy canvas
frameworks to a sample of 57 environmental consulting companies in the German
market, as well as to collect other signs of competitiveness and size.
In this analysis it was found that the digital revolution, sustainability and corporate
responsibility are already present in this industry, it was found that many companies
are providing not only environmental regulatory and managerial support but at the
same time providing scientific support, focusing on environmental efficiency and
waste management, and that nanomaterials seem to be the least featured market in
companies websites comparatively to biocides and medical devices.
This paper allowed to demonstrate the value that strategic tools can have, even when
applied to public website-content, as well as to demonstrate their limitations, allowing
us to give a better overview of the strategic nuances and structure of an overlooked
sector. Moreover, the context of this company’s strategic analysis also showcases that
Brexit can act as a catalyst of geographical expansion, which is a strategical impact in
this industry that hasn’t been studied before for companies in this industry

altered expression of cD300a inhibitory receptor on cD4+ T cells From human immunodeficiency Virus-1-infected Patients: association With Disease Progression Markers.
The ability of the CD300a inhibitory receptor to modulate immune cell functions and its
involvement in the pathogenesis of many diseases has aroused a great interest in this
molecule. Within human CD4+ T lymphocytes from healthy donors, the inhibitory receptor
CD300a is differentially expressed among different T helper subsets. However, there are
no data about the expression and regulation of CD300a receptor on CD4+ T cells from
human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1-infected patients. The objective of this study was
to investigate the expression of CD300a on CD4+ T cells from HIV-infected patients on
suppressive combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) and cART naïve patients. Our results
have demonstrated that the expression levels of this inhibitory receptor were higher on
CD4+ T cells from HIV-1 infected subjects compared with healthy donors, and that cART
did not reverse the altered expression of CD300a receptor in these patients. We have
observed an increase of CD300a expression on both PD1+CD4+ and CD38+CD4+
T cells from HIV-1 infected people. Interestingly, a triple positive (CD300a+PD1+CD38+)
subset was expanded in naïve HIV-1 infected patients, while it was very rare in healthy
donors and patients on cART. Finally, we found a negative correlation of CD300a
expression on CD4+ T lymphocytes and some markers associated with HIV-1 disease
progression. Thus, our results show that HIV-1 infection has an impact in the regulation
of CD300a inhibitory receptor expression levels, and further studies will shed light into the
role of this cell surface receptor in the pathogenesis of HIV infection
Sensing the difference: the influence of anisotropic cues on cell behavior
From tissue morphogenesis to homeostasis, cells continuously experience and respond to physical, chemical and biological cues commonly presented in gradients. In this article we focus our discussion on the importance of nano/micro topographic cues on cell activity, and the role of anisotropic milieus play on cell behavior, mostly adhesion and migration. We present the need to study physiological gradients in vitro. To do this, we review different cell migration mechanisms and how adherent cells react to the presence of complex tissue-like environments and cell-surface stimulation in 2D and 3D (e.g. ventral/dorsal anisotropy)
HULL’S MANUFACTURING COST STRUCTURE
This study analyses the structure of costs of several processes associated with the shipbuilding industry. The analysed productive processes are: cutting preparation procedures, steel plate cutting processes, processes of hull plates and stiffeners forming, associated transportation and assembling of plates and profiles, and finally the welding processes.
The methodology allows a shipyard to identify the main costs related to the manufacturing of the hull and the aspects that should be improved for increase productivity.
The methodology adopted may easily be adapted by each shipyard creating a work database in order to improve and update these formulas by adding new corrective coefficients based on the type of the built ship or construction complexity of certain ship blocks.
It is analysed 2 independent case studies that took place at different Portuguese shipyards and covering different aspects of the steel hull shipbuilding processes.
The first case study considers time and cost analysis of cutting preparation processes made by the design office, cutting/marking of steel plates and forming processes of stiffeners and hull plates, required for the construction of an 83m Hopper Barge, built by MPG, at LISNAVE Mitrena Shipyard, Portugal, 2010.
The second case considers the time and cost analysis of stiffeners cutting, steel plates and stiffeners assembly and welding, associated with the building of several blocks of an 80m fisheries supporting vessel by JOPERINOX Shipyard at Alverca, Portugal, 2008
